"Bringing back to life worn-out badges for the first responders is our way of saying thank you to them. Their jobs are not only difficult but, at times, dangerous. These are the people who deserve our thanks every day," said Sophie Shor, co-owner of the jewelry stores.
The idea sprang from a police officer's request for the service. The store's owners had been looking for a way to support first responders.
"When this particular police officer came in, we gladly polished and cleaned up his badge till it looked like new,hongae.com. He was very appreciative of how gracious our jewelers and staff were. We asked him to send his colleagues," said Shor. Since then, the store has had a few takers, but Roman Jewelers wants every first responder in New Jersey to take full advantage of the offer.
Master Jeweler Tommy Nguyen has polished a few local officer's badges. The Roman Jeweler's employee immigrated to the U.S. from Vietnam.
