A jobless Salafia said he drove up and down Route 46 applying to car shops until he found one that would hire him,Gucci Outlet. He soon began his career as a tire installer at what was then a shop called Action Tire.
He didn't know it at the time, but the move would shape his fate.
Salafia went on to buy the business in 2005 and add a few words to its name: Custom Lifestyle.
Cars provide a means of self-expression, he said.
Salafia, 44, has turned a business that once handled only tires into a one-stop shop for automotive needs. He's built a customization empire that's become a magnet for high-profile athletes and celebrities seeking to stand out.
Salafia said he's even had the chance for his own reality TV show. But after some thought, he opted against it.
"I didn't feel comfortable with cameras around me 24/7," Salafia said. "I didn't want it to break up my life."
Action Tire installs audio systems, integrated monitors, exhausts and, keeping to its roots,Gucci Bags, still specializes in wheels and rims.
As the company's sales manager, Brett Levy said this year has been a special one. Action Tire was named the No. 5 custom shop in North America by Complex magazine and was featured in DUB magazine. The shop was also invited to the New York International Auto Show, which wraps up this weekend, and will have several vehicles on display.
Among them is a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro owned by Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks. Salafia's shop installed an Xbox and an iPad and custom fabricated radio in the dashboard of the car. Action Tire also created custom brake calipers and painted wheels with Nicks' jersey number, 88, and the word "dream" for the vehicle. The job took 2? months to complete and cost more than $30,Chanel Online,000, Salafia said.

Rapper Ice-T and his wife, Coco, are also fans of Action, said Levy. The couple own a home in North Jersey and frequent the shop so often it was featured in their E! reality-TV show, "Ice Loves Coco."
Action Tire created a "Coco Edition Cadillac" and regularly helps Ice-T with the upkeep on his 2005 Bentley GT,Louis Vuitton Online. The car is worth an estimated $150,000 not counting the customization he's had done and will also be on display at the car show.
Levy said the shop applied new tires and rims to the vehicle. And though the cost of the job is confidential, Levy said the going rate for a full set of Bentley tires costs anywhere from $3,500 to $7,500 and Ice-T isn't cheap when it comes to his whip.
Though many people assume Action Tire owes much of its success to its celebrity clients, Levy and Salafia both said the majority of the company's business comes from blue-collar customers.
"The more money you have,foceng.com/gucci, the less you want to part with it," Levy said of some of the shop's celebrity clients. Still, it doesn't hurt the shop's success.
After the Giants' Super Bowl XLVI win last year, Salafia recalled half the team came to Action Tire in the months to follow to have their rides upgraded. Celebrities are generally interested in wheels, audio systems and custom interiors, he said.
Looking to the future, Salafia said he will stay close to his roots for continued success.
"People have this misconception that we only deal with famous people and high-end cars," a notion he said couldn't be further from the truth. "We'll take any job. We value our working-class customer all the same as the celebrity."
