Eleven young classical musicians from New York and New Jersey have been selected as finalists in the 2013 Pearl & Julius Young Music Competition, sponsored by The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey, it was announced today by Lisa Young, Esq., chairperson of the competition.
The finalists will compete in a musical event, open to the public, from noon-3 p.m., Saturday, March 16, at Dolan Hall, College of Saint Elizabeth, 2 Convent Road, Morristown. The event is free and open to the public.
Judges for the event include: Andrew Pecota, principal bassoonist with The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey,monster beats; Ron Levy, pianist with the Orpheus Men s Chorus and instructor at Montclair State University; and Robert Deutsch, cellist, who was with the Houston Symphony for 30 years and has appeared with the orchestra.
The first-place winner in the competition will receive a $1,000 cash award and an opportunity to appear with the Orchestra during its Summer Music Festival in August. Second-place winner will receive $500, third-place, $250; and two Honorable Mention winners will each receive $100. The award was established five years ago by Stephen and Sanford Young, area residents,louis vuitton outlet, in memory of their parents, who lived in New York City.
The competition is open to classical instrumentalists between the ages of 16-22. Past winners have been students at Juilliard School of Music,Tory Burch outlet, Mannes School of Music, and Manhattan School of Music, all in New York; as well as from several area high schools, including Princeton, Short Hills, Livingston and Edison.
