So Seaside Heights wants to build a seawall using funds raised by Snooki and the cast of MTV s Jersey Shore ? Talk about a Jersey joke, a New Jersey Sierra Club official said today.
Jeff Tittel,Cheap Toms shoes, director of the environmental group, slammed the idea saying it would only worsen flooding in nearby communities. A wall would create a false sense of security, he said,Burberry Bags, and doesn t compare to a comprehensive plan to curb flooding.
The criticism came less than a week after Seaside Heights officials started drawing up plans for a seawall that would be financed by MTV. John Camera, Seaside Heights administrator, said roughly $1 million was raised by the cast of the cable television network s reality show during a November benefit.
Seaside Heights was the playground of the Jersey Shore cast for four of the reality show s six seasons.
That was before Hurricane Sandy devastated the Ocean County borough last fall, sending a roller coaster into the Atlantic Ocean in what became a symbol of the storm s carnage.
According to Tittel, a seawall will do nothing to stop that from happening again. Instead, he said, the borough should focus on building sand dunes,Hogan, elevating structures and moving them away from the water,monster beats, and restoring stream buffers,Beats by Monster.
This project will cause more beach erosion and is environmentally damaging, Tittel said. This is the unreality show the next reality show will be the next flood destroying Seaside Heights.
But Camera said Tittel may be thinking of problems with the typical seawalls, which are usually built along the water line. Seaside Heights wall would be built more than 200 feet from the water,Prada Bags, just east of the boardwalk, Camera said,prada shoes.
Ours would be better termed as a protectionary wall, or a bulkhead even, Camera said. The borough decided against dunes because they could affect beach access and the visibility of the ocean, he said.
The Seaside Heights wall would extend less than a mile, but other details won t be decided until the engineering work is finished, which could be the end of next week, Camera said.
The wall, expected to cost between $1 million and $2 million, could begin construction in early April, Camera said. Seaside Heights officials hope to finish the project before Memorial Day.
MTV has not yet decided if it will fund the project with money from the benefit, Camera said,beats headphones.
