Amid the national debate over gun control, a series of rallies are being held across New Jersey this weekend to protest some two dozen bills in the Legislature that gun rights supporters say threaten the American way of life,louis vuitton purses.
In Woodbridge, a group of 15 gun owners demonstrated at an abandoned gas station on Route 35 this morning. Holding signs with slogans like Legal Gun Owners Save Lives, they received a mixed response from passing motorists. Some drivers honked their horns in approval, while others shouted angrily.
The gun advocates remained undaunted.
The Second Amendment is not about guns it s about protecting the people from a tyrannical government, said Bob Henn, vice president of operations for the New Jersey Second Amendment Society. What the politicians are trying to do is strip away our rights.
The small demonstration was one of eight rallies being held across New Jersey this weekend. In addition to Woodbridge, a protest was also held today in Newton. On Sunday, rallies are planned in Union, Burlington, Monmouth, Bergen, Passaic and Warren counties.
A loose-knit collection of groups including the New Jersey Second Amendment Society, the Fair Tax Foundation, the New Jersey Constitution Party, the New Jersey Libertarian Party, and the state s Tea Party caucus are supporting the rallies.
The groups say the pending state bills which would limit magazine sizes, and impose stricter regulations on gun ownership, transportation and sales would do nothing to prevent tragedies like the Newtown, Conn., school shooting in December or the shooting death of a 6-year-old boy by a 4-year-old neighbor in Toms River last week, they said.
Treating mental illness and responsible gun ownership are the answer instead, they said,true religion outlet.
Their intent is to disarm the country, said Martin Tremarco, of Monroe, a member of the New Jersey Second Amendment Society. There are plenty of laws already I d like to see some of them enforced.
