04/17/2013 07:22:44 PM PDT Shame on parents who ignored teen behavior Your editorial says, monster beats, "People aren't ashamed of things society doesn't find shameful" (Editorial, April 17). You want shame, here it is. Shame on the parents who don't know their 15-year-old children are abusing alcohol. Shame on the parents who don't know where their children are at night,Prada handbags. Shame on the parents who leave their 15-year-old children alone at home for the weekend,pilewu.com/truereligionjeans. Shame on the parents who don't understand that even when teenagers appear to be responsible and moral, they will still make serious errors of judgment,http://www.douuo.com/gucci.html/, by definition. Teenagers need parents who pay attention, and shame on the parents who don't. Louise Christy Sunnyvale Community showed, blocked McDonald's I'd like to celebrate how a community of neighbors from two cities banded together, without the support of the San Jose City Council representative for the area, and persuaded the San Jose City Council to deny an appeal to put a McDonald's drive-through in a place too close to houses and where current traffic problems would be exacerbated. We coalesced from a bunch of individuals into a community of people that cared about the safety of our children and were deeply concerned about traffic issues,douuo.com/gucci.html. However, their own district representative, Pete Constant, labeled this large community of divergent, Advertisementconcerned citizens "a special interest group." Thanks to seven members on the council the appeal was denied. I am proud of our effort as a community to be able to effect change. Claire Arnold Cupertino Saratoga principal may have head in sand Does the principal at Saratoga High's car sport a bumper sticker reading "What would Joe Paterno do?" Suzy Siegler San Jose More legal immigrants will hurt the poorest The Senate's new immigration bill must be amended or it will hurt millions of the poorest among us. The "Gang of Eight" has asked for a 50 percent increase in legal immigrants. The Center for Immigration Studies has found that two-thirds of all jobs created during the Obama administration have gone to immigrants. An increase will take jobs mostly from the poorest of our citizens since they usually compete in the same occupations. The Bureau of Labor Statistics says that one out of every two Americans age 18 to 32 is unemployed or underemployed. During this Great Recession, it makes more sense to reduce the numbers rather than increase them. It appears that the Gang of Eight is pandering to the Chamber of Commerce without thinking of the horrific aftereffects it will have on our most vulnerable. Bill Cool Corona Del Mar Disparity between rich, poor is wider than ever The middle-class is getting squeezed. Years ago, CEOs made 40 times what the average worker made. Now CEOs make about 400 times as much,Burberry On Sale. Meanwhile, in San Jose one-quarter of our residents live on less than $19,000 a year while the average rent is $20,000. No one who works full-time should be living in poverty. And what happens when workers are forced to move away and we lose our gardeners, air jordon pas cher, janitors, waiters,Toms Shoes, retail workers, etc? In the Silicon Valley of brainpower, might a few of our creative thinkers find a way to narrow the gap between rich and poor to create a more livable and sustainable economy for us all? Georgia Platts San Jose Bill needed to hold adults responsible Your fine editorial, "Stigma of sex assault deeply ingrained still'' (Editorial, April 17), addresses our culture of accusing the victim. I would like legislation to address the culpability of the parents of the students when there is drinking in their homes -- surely they are co-conspirators for abetting underage drinking and also share responsibility for any resulting rapes or assaults.
