Except for that time in elementary school. There was a short stint in the third grade where I wanted to be a scientist, he says, laughing. And then in the fourth grade I was going to compromise by illustrating science books. That didn t happen. Davis dream led him to study graphic design at Savannah College of Art and Design, and he spent 10 years as a designer for Southern Living. Graphic design is a good extension of my love for art, Davis says. It s also a way to make a living. Although graphic design is how he pays his bills, it s his work as a painter that earned him the honor of being named the 2013 Featured and Emerging Artist for Magic City Art Connection s 30th annual contemporary art festival.Davis lively and colorful portraits of dogs grabbed the attention of festival directors Eileen and Alex Kunzman.
