White Sox-Twins game postponed1

A forecast of cold and windy conditions forced postponement of Friday's series-opening game between the Minnesota Twins and the Chicago White Sox.

By evening, temperatures were expected to fall to 28 degrees -- with wind chills as low as 19 degrees -- for the first of three scheduled weekend contests at U. S. Cellular Field.

On Friday afternoon, the Chicago area had already experienced periods of sleet and snow flurries.

A makeup date and time will be announced later. The White Sox have home series against the Twins in August and September with potential dates for a makeup.

Friday's postponement is just the sixth in the history of U. S. Cellular Field due to cold weather and the first since April 20, 2008, also against the Twins.

Scheduled starting pitchers will move back a day, with White Sox right-hander Gavin Floyd (0-3) going against Twins left-hander Scott Diamond (0-1) at 2: 05 p. m. (CT) on Saturday.

Chicago right-hander Dylan Axelrod (0-1) meets Minnesota righty Kevin Correla (1-1) at 1: 10 p. m. (CT) Sunday.

Conditions are expected to improve through the weekend, with a high of 48 degrees on Saturday and temperatures in the low 60s for Sunday's finale,Free shipping Wallace Knicks authentic Jersey.

The Twins enter the series with back-to-back wins over the Los Angeles Angels after struggling through a five-game losing streak. Minnesota had an off day Thursday.

The White Sox salvaged a 10-game road trip by splitting a four-game series in Toronto, closing with a 3-1 loss on Thursday. They came into that series with a five-game losing streak, including three losses in Washington and two in Cleveland.

The postponement comes in the wake of a wild weather week in Chicago. Wednesday's Cubs-Rangers night game at Wrigley Field was postponed due to rain and cold.

But the teams managed to get in Thursday's daytime series finale after Chicago received more than five inches of rain, with serious flooding throughout the city and suburbs.

Notes: White Sox left-hander Chris Sale took the loss Thursday but gave up just two earned runs while striking out six Blue Jay batters. He's already struck out 23 in 19 innings through four starts.
